9 Summer Baby Care Tips that you must Follow

Summer has just come. Just like everyone, babies also get affected by harsh summer weather. In fact, they are affected more. Just like others, summer dehydrate the babies. It also cause heat rash in them. In fact, diaper rash occurs more in summer season, due to collected perspiration there.  Therefore to save them, you need to follow 9 summer baby care tips. Every mother and father want to save their baby from harsh effect of summer. For that these summer baby care tips come handy to use. Baby can’t do things on there own. Therefore, you need to do that on your own and regularly monitor.

9 Summer baby care tips that you must follow-


1) Make baby wear only cotton clothing-

Summer cause too much perspiration. Therefore make baby wear only cotton fabric clothing. It is excellent perspiration absorber. It also allows excellent cross ventilation of air.

2) Hydration-

In summer, dehydration occurs not only in adults, but in babies also. If your baby is below 6 months, then breastfeed baby after every 2 hours. Breastfeed contains enough essential micronutrients and water that prevents dehydration.
  • But, if your baby is above 6 months, then you can give, home made fruit juice once in a day. 
  • You can give banana shake or papaya shake once in day. Fruits contains enough micronutrients that prevents dehydration. 
  • Curd can be given to baby, above 4 months.


3) What to wear at home-

At home make baby wear vests (sleeveless top, baniyan) as top and nickar as lower.
  • Don’t make baby wear diapers in summers at home, as they cause diaper rashes. In summer, diaper rash occurs very fast due to perspiration due to summer.


4) What to wear outside-

Outside if possible make baby wear half sleeve shirt and nikar.  But, if you have want, your baby girl to wear frock, then wear light weight.
  • Do not make her wear heavy one, with too many layers of clothes, with heavy work, blocking air circulation.


5) Skin care-

First massage baby, before bath, with coconut oil. Then massage with coconut oil, after bath. But, do not use too much quantity of oil for massage in summers. Use very less amount, as perspiration occurs in summers. To avoid over oily sensation, use less amount. Doctors recommend only coconut oil, for baby skin care.

  • You can apply curd to baby skin and scalp hair before bath. Curd removes dandruff in scalp. Curd also give sootheness to skin. It also hydrate baby skin and removes dirt.

  • Body and head massage is miracle stick. It improves blood circulation of baby. It strengthen baby muscles. It calms baby, give sound sleep to baby.


6) Bath- 

If your baby is below 6 months, give bath on gap of 3 days, in summer. But, if your baby is above 6 months, then you can give bath to baby, every day. But, massage your baby, before and after bath, with coconut oil. But, use very less quantity in summer, as compared to winter.
  • Temperature of water used to bath baby in summer, should be lukewarm. It should neither be cold, nor hot. It should be normal, at room temperature.


7) Make baby wear light colour clothing-

Reason being light colours are good reflectors of sunlight. Whereas dark colours are good absorber of sunlight. That cause too much perspiration because of excess heat absorbed, by dark colours from sunlight.

8) Make baby wear loose fitting clothes-

Loose fitting clothes allow cross ventilation of air. That prevents collection of perspiration at one place. Whereas, tight fitting clothes does not allow cross ventilation of air. Perspiration keeps collecting at one place, causing heat rashes there.

9) What to wear in AC- 

If baby is in AC room, then make baby wear full sleeves shirt and full ankle length lower to prevent excessive cooling. Keep AC temperature in balance with outside temperature. This is to prevent sudden change of temperature.
  • If you are keeping your baby in AC, then keep temperature of AC between 24°C to 26°C. Before, taking baby from AC to non AC atmosphere, switch off AC 15 minutes before. Switching off AC before 15 minutes will equalise temperature inside to that of outside. 
  • Similarly, do not switch on AC for at least for 15 minutes, if you have come from outside, after being in harsh summer sunlight for some hours.
